Tahiti Boat Trip
01.06.07
I just returned from a two week boat trip in French Polynesia where I took part in a TV show called „Nomads“ for Rush TV and National Geographic. At the same time we were also filming part of the kitefilm “Lines”, a Bilderback production and the TV show is actually going to be a “making off” documentary about the making off this movie.
Also “on board” were riders Sky Solbach, Jason Slezak and Moehau Goold. All in all a nice crew with a great vibe that was guaranteeing a fun time!
We started off on Tahiti and showed up at Teahupoo on the last day of the ASP surf contest. Lucky enough we actually got to watch Teahupoo breaking big with all the top pro surfers like Kelly, Andy, Wardo etc. surfing it! An amazing day and such a great start of the trip!
The next day we boarded the boat and spent the following 10 days cruising around Society Islands of French Polynesia. The first days we were still cruising around Tahiti Island, getting in our first kite sessions at point venus (the kite beach Tahitis) and in front of amazingly beautiful and green, green mountains and valleys on the east side of the island.
After that we started making our way west and went to Moreea, where we got another kite session, but also got to swim with Rays and Sharks!!! What an amazing experience!
Still going further west we now went on a 12 hour crossing to go to Tahaa island next. Not only made the long boat ride all of us feeling a little sea sick, but unfortunately it seemed like the further west we went the less wind we got and so we only got in one more kite session on Tahaa with really light wind. But not wasting time we went for other activities like visiting a pear farm, scuba diving, surfing, fishing and so on.
Everything we did just became an incredible experience in the beauty of French Polynesia… crystal clear water, green and lush islands, incredible waves and warm, warm water and weather made us enjoy every single minute of the trip so much!
After Tahaa we went for a last little stop on Raaitea, from where we also flew back to Tahiti to end our trip.
Originally we had come on this trip to kite in big waves, but unfortunately the theme of the trip somehow became chasing the wind and waves and never finding them together. But no matter, we found wind and flat water and we found waves and no wind. We shot some great action and even better lifestyle and I am sure the TV show is going to be great and will show everyone how much fun kite surfing really is in such beautiful places like French Polynesia.
Thanks a lot to Brian, Denver, and Eyal from Rush TV (the most professional TV crew I ever worked together with!), to John and Alexis Bilderback (for making an amazing trip happening and putting such great work into their movie!), to Sky Solbach, Jason Slezak and Moehau Goold (for being such great buddies) and to boat crew CinCin, Johnny and Gordon!!!
