Racing World Championships / San Francisco
09.08.09

For the first time in the history of Kite-Racing the World Champion was going to be determined in a one-off world championship event. San Francisco and the famous San Francis Yacht Club were chosen to be the host of this major event and so the worlds best kite-race-competitors came together to battle it out in the bay!

And with Kite-Racing still being such a young discipline of our sport there sure were lots of things going on during a big competition like this. 66 riders from all over the world came to Crissy field to compare their skills and also their equipment in these 5 days of highly competitive racing.

Already after day one it was clear that Bruno Sroka/FRA, the big favorite for this competition and winner of all 3 PKRA race events in 2009, was not going to be winning here and things would be mixed up completely new... Even in the last few days before the competition riders had changed and further developed their equipment, adjusted it to the conditions here in the SF bay and trained in the local conditions. Things were crazy and teams were supporting their riders with lots of dedication and time, making it very exciting to be part of this first ever ISAF sanktioned Kite-Race World Championship event.

While our muscles and bodies had to put up with lots of extrem excercising and we all learned a lot about racing equipment and team-spirit during the event so perfectly organized by the San Francis Yacht Club, we all surely had a great week of racing. With Sean Farelye/Mexico in first place for the guys and Steph Bridge/UK in first place for the women (both North Kiteboarding Team) the event came to an end at the official price giving party at the yacht club and I was happy with my 2nd place in the womens devision and a great 25th place in the mens scoring table.

Back for more racing with some team mates (hopefully) next year! :)
