Triple S - Hatteras
12.06.07
The Triple S was coming up and I was very excited about going there as I had heared so many great things about the event and Real Kiteboading... So I basically went straight from Tahiti to Hatteras. The day before the competition started there was something else to be excited about though... it actually turned 30!
wow, it is so funny how it always kind of seemed so far away, and now it is right there.. the thirties! And what a perfect day! We arrived in Hatteras and moved into the riders house which was probably my best birthday present ever! Hot tub, Pool Table, Foosball table, big scrren TV’s, hot brownies and lovely people celebrate with! It definitely felt good to turn 30 this way! ;-)
And then, the next day the event was about to start.. Everybody arrived and registered at the Real Center, most of the people went out to ride before the big opening party in the evening and the official start of the competition the next morning. The event with the most riding ever was about to start..
And really, we have basically been riding all week with about 20 hours riding in total… The first day was the big wave day! We were lucky enough to get a big swell together with a nice storm and just rode waves all day! The next day even more incredible though: we rode Sliders in the morning, Slick (Freestyle) at noon and had another wave session in the afternoon! (for those that don’t know: Tripple S stands for Slider, Slick and Surf) We were already pretty beat up after those 2 full days of riding, but the conditions did not want to give us a break… more sliders and Freestyle the next day, and the day after that, and the day after that… and after that. We rode every single day, and as if we could not get enough – even rode in the evenings and into the dark.
We slid the John Wayne Slider, the Red Cull Funbox, the Cameltoe and the Dog and if there would have been anything else to slide, I am sure we would have been sliding that too! ;-) We always had a great time all together… on the water and off… most of the time there were people watching, hanging out and just having fun with us.
In the evenings we sat together and checked out the footage of the day and some of us even had enough energy to party. (they must have been way younger then 30 though!!!)
And after and amazing week and the most amazing competition I ever had we were all unbelievable tired, bruised and broken, but also unbelievable happy and stoked!
We ended the event with a slide show with JB’s pictures, a great award ceremony and a closing party at the riders house.
Oh, right, not even riding heats and just being out with everybody having so much fun, I still won all 3 disziplines! ☺ Did I already say that I will definatley come back here next year?
But for now we all definitely need a few days rest to heal and get some energy back…
Before going on to the next adventure!
