World Cup St. Peter/Germany
03.08.09
Ones again the World Cup in St. Peter Ording proofed to be the biggest and best world cup in Kiteboarding and with at least 150000 visitors it for sure has set new standards and brought Kiteboarding to the masses.
With 9 days the World Cup in St. Peter Ording is also the longest event of the year and while you never really expect wind during the whole period in an event in Germany the wind god prooved us wrong... We had it all... light wind, medium wind, up to 40 knots stormy wind, sun, rain and an unexpected high storm flood that flooded the whole event site! Wind every single day... which meant for me to compete every single day (as I was competing in all disciplines) and to be quite exhausted after the comp...
While competing every day kept me busy it still left me enough time to work with all different German TV channels and Newspapers. I tought Ross Antony (actor and pop star) how to kite for the cameras, gave up to 8 interviews a day and also managed to fit in 2 little signature hours at the Best Kiteboarding booth. All in all it seems crazy that after 9 days were still too short to answer all questions, sit together with brands and officials that were interested in a meeting and find a few minutes for friends that I had not seen in a long time.
While there was not much off time we still managed to have a meeting about the future of our sport with PKRA and local organizer and everything sounds really promissing and I am very positive that we can get all interests and oppinions together and work towards a brighter future of Kiteboarding!
I am already in San Francisco for the Course Race World Champs now but reflecting the last week from here I can only say that I very much enjoyed competing in the World Cup in St. Peter Ording ones again and want to say thanks to Act Agency, 9 pm Media and of course the PKRA for such a great event!
Oh, I was also very happy about my 2nd place in course racing in Germany and was having a great time competing in the freestyle (where I ended up in a great 6th place).
See you all in St. Peter Ording next year! You really should come and have a look at the biggest kiteboarding event in the world!
