World Cup Sylt/Germany
24.06.09

Crazy enough Germany is host for not only one, but 2 Kiteboarding World Cups this year. The first one of them, the KPWT event, just took part this past week on Germanys most famous Island Sylt.

While we were extremely lucky with the weather and wind conditions the organizers were trying to run as many disciplines as possible. On the two days with light winds we were racing a total of 9 races. On the 3 days with stronger wind we finished a single and double Elimination of Freestyle and a Single of Waveriding.
In manage to win most of the Course Races and took the first place Overall. In the Freestyle I found myself in the final together with fellow DaKine teammate Gisella Pulido (Spain) where she impressed me and the Judges with 5 powered handle passes and a great style in the difficult conditions we were competing in. That put me in second place in the Freestyle event.
And while I can surely be happy with my results on Sylt it seems like it will still be a while until I will be satisfied with the tour-organization of the Kitesurf events (in particular the KPWT events) as there are many things that need to be improvement. With the IKA in action though many things are happening and I actually have hope for the years to come and believe that things will finally move into the right direction. I might check back on the development of the KPWT tour next year. For this year I am looking forward to the PKRA world cup in St. Peter Ording/Germany and the World Chapionships in San Franzisco!
Am off to NY for an exciting shoot… Bye for now, Kristin
