Kiteboarding seeks inclusion on the Olympic Sailing Program

TAMPA/LONDON/BERLIN, August 3rd: Nine-time women's kiteboarding world champion Kristin Boese is backing up the IKA's Olympic campaign to have the sport included in the sailing program for the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro.

Kristin Boese says: "I believe that kiteboarding would be the perfect addition to the Olympic Sailboat classes. It is spectacular, transports a young and dynamic image and offers huge potential as a media and spectator sport."

"Through its beauty and excitement kiteboarding has the power to reach out to millions of people around the world and inspire them - a message that I am more than happy to support." Boese adds.

The IKA too fervently believes that the discipline of kiteboarding should be included within the Olympic Sailing Competition from 2016 onwards and starts its Olympic campaign with an amazing array of ambassadors. Boese is joined by personalities like Virgin Chairman Sir Richard Branson, Venture Capitalist Bill Tai, 2-time Olympic Medalist Michael Gebhard and many more.

Richard Branson, an avid kiteboarder himself, who hosted the first annual "Kite Jam" event on his private Necker Island earlier this year says: "Kiteboarding is a fun and spectacular sport that I think would make a tremendously exciting addition to the Olympic Games."

Markus Schwendtner, Executive Secretary of the IKA states: "It is important for us to showcase that kiteboarding is a worldwide movement with the support of personalities from in- and outside the sport. Sir Richard Branson is a great example for how to spread the message of kiteboarding through fantastic ventures. Kristin Boese, the world's most successful female kiteboarder, brings kiteboarding to the masses through various media projects. Kiteboarding enthusiast and Venture Capitalist Bill Tai spreads the message of the sport through his network around the world. This is what our Olympic Ambassadors are standing for, an integration of sport and society".

The International Olympic Committee stated at the 2009 Olympic Congress in Copenhagen that the Olympic Movement must strive to reach out to youth around the world.

Kiteboarding believes it is the "perfect fit" since it is a young and dynamic sport with the ability to capture a broad audience.

To further support the Olympic campaign of kiteboarding and to help assure a strong field of female competitors will be ready to compete in the Rio de Janeiro games, Boese is conducting her KB4girls worldwide tour which reaches out to women to embrace the sport.

Upcoming KB4girls events:

Fischland, Germany / August 20-22
Malmo, Sweden / August 28-29
Hood River, US / September 4
Montauk/NY, USA / September 24-26
Lancing, UK / October 8-10

###

About Kristin Boese

Sports model Kristin Boese, Guinness World Record™ record-holder and nine-time world kiteboarding champion reaches out to girls around the world to sharpen their skills and learn new riding tricks.
European Best meeting and girls pro clinis in Ireland

Somehow I had never managed to go to one of the Best dealer meetings (except of the one day I...

And it really was a special meeting I have to say as we not only got to test the new 2010 gear but also got to really explore the west coast of Ireland during the 4 short days of the event.
With a big coach, countless rental cars and 3 big vans full of equipment we drove to a new spot every day, exploring coastline and countryside in a very special way.
The first day started of with a beautiful 1.5 hour drive to Keel. Even though we did not find any wind in the wide bay of Keel we did find lots of space for a beach BBQ and to present all the new 2010 gear. In the afternoon we even went on a Beach Safari which was a amazing Kayak tour along crazy rock formations and through caves and I was totally blown away by Irelands magic!
For the next day we had organized a Girls Pro Clinic for all the female kiters of Ireland and thanks to the guys from Pure Magic Kitesurfing the clinic was not only well attended with 20 girls but we also had a bus, free lunch, dinner, T-shirt and party for all the girls taking part in the clinic. With Belmullet we had chosen a spot where all the Best guys could kite on the ocean side and in the waves and where we girls could kite on the other side on a flat water (lake). The day turned out great and after a demo in the beginning where I showed the girls all the moves they wanted to work on during the day we then went kiting all together and everybody improved a lot and we definitely celebrated that at the party in the evening! J
This was not the only party of course and even though I don’t usually party that much I have to say the Irish and all the Best guys are real party people and the Guiness and “Irish Flag shots” were adding to it. This made the event even more crazy and fun I have to say..
But back to work of course as the next day I had a super fun day of shooting fun lifestyle and some action shots (in light winds) with Best photographer Gavin! We even had Jeff and Iveta help us out with the lighting and finding the right locations and managed to just get everything we needed before the meeting was over…
After a little closing party I took a taxi to the airport at 2 am in the morning to get on my way to Indonesia… Long trip, but very much looking forward to meet up with the Best Odyssey and to ride some great waves!

PKRA course race world cup Greece

A few years have passed since the PKRA had been guest on beautiful Pounda Beach/Paros Island, but...

Because of the last minute announcement of the event only about 2/3rd of the riders were able to make it out to Greece. Still, the best of the best had showed up to battle it out race after race between the islands of Paros and Antiparos. With 4 races a day and 5 possible days of racing an interesting event was expected. However, Bruno Sroka proved that he really is the best rider this year, winning every single race.
On the female side Steph Bridge had broken her rib and could not compete, that meant for me my strongest opponent was out and even though we had some awesome greek girls compete I was able to win all except of one race.
While the winners were pretty undisputed, it seemed as if there was a little dispute going on between Paros and the weather gods. While the first 2 days brought perfect sunshine and 15-20 knots, the 3rd day came with some crazy rain. Usually there is NO RAIN whatsoever in Greece at this time of the year and soeverybody was completely unprepared.. The restaurant and kite center proofed very water-un-proof a nd beach and roads did not seem to soak up any of the water falling from the sky. While everything was muddy and messy the restaurants in Pounda all closed down and it took a day to get everything to work normal again.
The happier everybody was to see the sun again on the last 2 days of the event and next to racing the windy time was also used to run the Greek Championships. The top 3 guys and girls were really riding on a pretty high level and it was fun to watch them between our races!
With 11 races and the Greek Championships completed everyone could be pretty satisfied with the event and after the price giving the riders that had traveled to Paros from all over the world took the next ferry back to Athens and towards home.
Greece ones again proofed itself to be a beautiful and worthy world cup spot and we will probably come back next year!

Report: Summer's End Girls Clinic in Hood River a huge Success!

Supported by Dakine, Liquid Force Kiteboarding, Best Kiteboarding, and Elemental Herbs, 8-Time World Champion Kristin Boese and Tonia Farman hosted the event from Well's Island in the Columbia Gorge. Once everyone was shuttled to the island, the gray clouds parted and the wind turned on. Tonia and Kristin kicked off the all-day event with demonstrations by Kristin while Tonia walked through the steps to perform the maneuvers that Kristin was executing. The gals asked questions as Kristin rode back and forth to demonstrate moves. Then it was time for everyone to get on the water!
28 girls launched their kites and headed upwind to ride in a wide open section of the river, with steady wind for attempting tricks. Tonia and Kristin, on their kites as well, stayed close by to give tips and instruction and demonstrate on the water. After a lunch break, the gals went back out for a group downwinder to the Hood River Event Site.
The evening festivities were hosted by Windance with free cocktails, beer, BBQ, Thai dinner, music, and a raffle sponsored by Slingshot and Mystic. Thanks to Dakine, Liquid Force, Best, South Bank Kitchen, and Windance for an incredible support!

Kitopia Women's Kite Clinic report

This Women's advanced clinic in cooperation with Sandy Parker and Kiteopia was scheduled for...

So instead of meeting up on Sherman Island we send out a little shout to all the participating girls that we would meet up on 3rd Ave instead. Quite far away from the original spot I was quite happy that 13 of the originally 22 registered girls still showed up and was actually happy that we ended up with a smaller group, as I had never kited 3rd Avenue before and found the spot safer with less people.
Happy that we actually found wind in a kind of weird weather pattern, we did not really care that the wind was still kind of light and after a first little welcome meeting at the parking lot we all took our big kites to the upwind launch.
Everyone prepared their gear and to make it interesting for everyone and each level we went ahead with a little demonstration on the water. While we had asked the girls in advance which trick they wanted to work on it was now on me to demonstrate one move after the other and Sandys job to explain the different steps and points of the moves. It worked out well and everyone was super excited to now go out and try these moves too!
So everyone went kiting together for about 2 hours, with Sandy and I following the girls, giving pointers on the water until the wind finally dropped so much that we could not keep going anymore.
For me it was just great to meet all these girls kiters from the Bay Area and a lot of fun to see how motivated they got and how much they enjoyed each other! I really hope to be back next year for another clinic in cooperation with Kitopia and Sandy on SHERMAN ISLAND! :)
